Wesley's First Update from Peru!

We got the first email from Wesley today, albeit very brief:

Subject: Arrival

After a long day of flying I finally arrived here at the CCM in Lima. I met my first companion Elder Manzenera and all the guys in my district are awesome. Its hoooot!!! Gotta go:

Airport Goodbyes

Wes flew out this morning on a 6:30am flight to Lima (via Salt Lake City and Atlanta).  That means we arrived at the airport at the unholy hour of 4:30am!

Tears were quietly shed, but no embarrassing photos of too much emotion.

 Two other departing missionaries joined him on his flight, and the number grew with each connecting flight.

Setting apart

We met with the Stake President on Monday night, and President Stafford laid hands on Wesley's head and set him apart as a full-time missionary and gave him a sweet blessing.  I think that makes him officially a missionary.

Farewell

Wes gave his farewell address on Sunday, and afterwards had a small reception at our home.  Some extended family was there and some friends and members of the ward stopped by to say their farewells.  It was also Wesley's last opportunity to give hugs to all the pretty girls who came around.

We're very blessed to be near family and have a ward and friends so supportive.
